Space Secrets is a web-based game for children to learn about domestic violence, its various forms, and ways to get support. The game takes place in the fictional solar system Nati, with characters consisting of robots living in different family constellations. The player works at an emotion center and is tasked with finding out why a number of robot children in the solar system are feeling unwell, have difficulty concentrating at school, and are depressed or angry.
The player visits the different planets in the solar system and discovers that all is not well in the robots' homes. By accessing memory scenarios from the robots' lives, which depict scenarios where different forms of violence are exemplified, the player learns about the different forms of violence and what it can mean for a child to witness violence at home. The beta version of the game consists of five planets representing physical, psychological, social, economic, and sexual violence.
Today, at least 160,000 children and young people in Sweden see, hear, and know about violence in the home. Research shows that experiences of violence during childhood can have serious consequences for children's and young people's mental and physical health and development. By increasing children's opportunities to obtain information about domestic violence on their own terms, we strengthen their ability to dare to tell an outsider if they themselves, or someone they know, are exposed to domestic violence.
Space Secrets is produced by Film and Tell and developed by Dimh, in collaboration with Voice for Change and with support from Vinnova. A beta version of Space Secrets was launched in May 2022.
